WHAT READERS ARE SAYING

“It is a wonderful, and very well-written book. I really recommend for everybody to read this book. I am not a person who like to read, but this book is really interesting and it is real story. Thank you so much and I am waiting for more books!!!!!”

“One of the best books I've ever read! If you really enjoy in-depth and visual war stories, this is the book for you. It's very detailed and makes you feel like you’re actually in Vietnam throughout the whole thing. Once I received this book I could NOT put it down!!! I will definitely be buying more books from this author as they come out! Great job, Tim. Keep it up, bud!”

“The Eagle and the Tiger is a compelling, powerful novel about the brutal, sometimes compassionate relationships between our own American soldiers in Vietnam, as well as their enemy, the Vietcong. The storytelling is so vivid that I felt I was in the jungle marching with the grunts or in heat of battle with bullets whizzing by my ears. The political statements are both justified and sometimes shocking as they comment on the government, as well as our military forces. I especially liked the way the book smoothly transitions between the relationships of Americans soldiers and the Vietcong, telling us both sides of the story. I highly recommend The Eagle and the Tiger, especially for our younger generation so they can form a better understanding of the Vietnam War.”

Bill Fleming’s first day with the 173rd Airborne Division in Vietnam was a memorable one.

Fleming had once been a promising pitcher for the White Sox, but he decided that serving his country was more important than his love of baseball. Joining the army for a four-year enlistment, it started out as smooth sailing.

However, his time overseas in the war proved to be the kind of experience that defined a generation. Fleming came to hate the war, yet was entrapped in the insanity.

And in this insanity, lives were lost and dreams died.

STILL NOT SURE? Here are some reviews from readers like you

“I'm not usually a fan of in-depth war fiction, but I'm so glad I read 'The Eagle and the Tiger' by Tim Davis. There is no doubt that the war in Vietnam was full of horrors, and Davis does not shy away from that, making for a gritty, brutal read. But he also brilliantly portrays the human side of war, describing the solid relationships that developed within units of the US Army, as well as between the child soldiers of the Viet Cong. It's hard to remember that soldiers are human beings, too, with hopes and dreams that once seemed possible, before being dropped into a war they didn't properly understand. I highly recommend this book; it was powerful, exciting, and moving, too. I can't wait to read more from Tim Davis.”

“Wow, a graphic depiction of the war in Vietnam. If you have any doubt about man’s inhumanity to man, the pages here will awaken you to the real world you live in and your own moral dilemmas and truths. Who would you have become in these circumstances?”

“I found Tim Davis' book fascinating and very engrossing. The characters were very well developed and he was able to show both sides of the conflict in a way that engages the reader. I would recommend this book highly.”

In the darkness of what was and what became of the Vietnam War, many have been reserved with their notions and opinions rightfully obliged to be spoken aloud yet to often reserved. The Eagle and the Tiger by Jim Davis however delivers a captivatingly influential novel about the darkness that truly was the Vietnam War. Compassion showed however in the depths of both American and Vietnam soldiers abiding faith in one another. Davis puts the readers in the boots of both sides of the war, while explaining while allowing the soldiers to comment on their government’s political aspirations. Yet as the novel unfolds, you will find that the story is told with such detail and description, that the humidity of the jungle could be an honest reality. This is a high recommendation, for both former soldiers to the generations new to come.

If you are interested in exploring the variety of reasons why war is waged between countries and within ourselves, the Vietnam war in particular in this case, then this is a read for you. I was expecting a gung ho tribute . It was that , but went beyond to examine from the U.S. and V.C. perspectives , what it is that has us kill one another. It is not what you think it is . . . Tim Davis takes you to places within oneself and asks why we humans are unable to create a "Family of Man" better than we presently do and what are some of the reasons we repeat this flaw over and over. As one would expect , the reasons are far and varied and made me ponder the very nature of why we are here on this Earth, and yes, why do we seemingly find it so easy to kill those whom we truly do not know. Perhaps some reasons to get better at not doing it and yes, thank those , who keep us safe as well. Confusing, yes, and unsettling, truly unsettling .
Have to admit I am biased. That's because Tim and I were stationed together at the 404th RR Det at LZ English, the 330th RR Company at Nha Trang, and at the 7th RRFS at Non Soong, Thailand and have been lifelong distant friends. We started tae kwan do together as well, but he continued while I wimped out. The novel is an interesting read for both veterans and non-veterans. There were kernels of truth here and there. And the ending was a surprise. I'm not an avid reader because I spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen and get plenty of reading done there. But I truly enjoyed the book and highly endorse Tim's first novel.

I have many books about Vietnam. It was my generation's war. This is not the best example. It is unrelenting in its coarseness and it is hard to tell the theme of the book between dwelling on he futility of war and the competency of officers. One thing that does come through loud and clear is that in combat it is about the guy next to you and forget the stuff about the duty, honor, country. That is the one redeeming feature aside from the fact that it portrays the NVA as having similar moral dilemmas which is unique among books I have read.
A detailed and authentic depiction of what happened among the soldiers in Vietnam, this account takes the reader deep into the heart of the action and allows us to experience first hand the horrors and also the humanities encountered by a soldier in Vietnam. What is so compelling is that Davis re-tells the story from both sides, the American soldiers and also the enemy lines. The facts are well documented, and the story is told in a way that engages the reader from the beginning. Although often harrowing, this story forms an important part of American history, and is a must-read for fans of war stories and real-life accounts. The knowledge that the book is written by a veteran, and that he has been through everything he is describing to us really brings the piece to life.
Not much like I recalled - but what happened in that war depended a lot on when you were there, where you were there, and what kind of adversity you faced. Though hardly saints, I don’t remember any of my guys swearing as much or even talking as much during contact. I was an Infantry squad leader during my year, B/2/503 173rd ABN BDE 1968-69
